About The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers
The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) is the first not-for-profit banking institute in Hong Kong which serves the local banking and financial industry as a professional training provider and qualification benchmark setter. With an objective of maintaining and further developing the Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre, the banking institute strives to build a competent and sustainable talent pool by providing banking practitioners with professional training and development opportunities with the support of banks, regulators, financial institutions, academic institutions and professional bodies.
HKIB was founded in 1963 as the Hong Kong Centre of the Institute of Bankers, London. The Hong Kong Centre of the Institute of Bankers was renamed The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers in 1995. In 2013, the banking association launched the first and only non-tertiary programme in Hong Kong to be accredited at Qualifications Framework Level 6 by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). In 2017, the Institute launched the Certified Banker (CB) and Enhanced Competency Framework on Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Financing of Terrorism (ECF-AML/CFT). The Education Bureau appointed the banking organisation as the first Professional Qualifications Assessment Agency in the banking industry to accredit nine of its professional qualifications in 2020.
Mission and Vision
The mission of HKIB is to enhance and sustain professionalism in banking through the provision of professional training and certification. The banking institute has been endeavouring to equip practitioners and young graduates who aspire to join the industry in Hong Kong with essential banking skills and knowledge through a complete development pathway – from recognised professional qualifications to continuing development programmes. To ensure the sustainable growth of banking talent, the banking organisation has been working closely and exchanging expertise and best practices with professional bodies and regulators from different territories to help establish banking professional standards across the region. The banking association also hosts a comprehensive range of events, including networking activities, luncheons, seminars, conferences and forums for banking practitioners or potential joiners to keep abreast of the latest industry developments and remain competent amid the volatile banking landscape.
